Tropical plants, Terrariums and Fruit trees

Oak & Reed has been working in horticulture for over a decade. From working on the veg patch at home to professional gardening and horticulture, to then working with our sister company 'Terram Pacifici,' (TP) - we've now expanded into a diverse plant store.

Eight years ago, TP first discovered terrariums and became passionate about creating them. We have extensive knowledge of terrariums, tropical plants and their environments. After years of experience, we now hold workshops for all occasions including art therapy, parties, weddings, schools, and youth centres all over the UK.

Oak & Reed now sells tropical plants and terrariums online and in-store, Broadmeed, Bristol at  'Art club' located at 12-16 Bond Street. There is also a portable store in multiple locations across Bristol.

Self-sustainable eco-systems

The first terrarium was developed by botanist Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward in 1842.

Terrariums are mini self-sustainable eco-systems.

A  sealable glass container that can be opened for maintenance to access the plants inside.

Closed terraria create a unique environment for plant growth, as the transparent walls allow for both heat and light to enter the terrarium.

The sealed container combined with the heat entering the terrarium allows for the creation of a small scale water cycle. This happens because the moisture from both the soil and plants evaporates in the elevated temperatures inside the terrarium.

This water vapour then condenses on the walls of the container and eventually falls back to the plants and soil below.

This contributes to creating an ideal environment for growing plants due to the constant supply of water, thereby preventing the plants from becoming over dry.

In addition to this, the light that passes through the transparent material of the terrarium allows for the plants within to photosynthesize a very important aspect of plant growth.

Please see the store to buy one of our pre-made terrariums, or book us for a course.
